Terms of Service
Effective: October 22, 2026
By creating an account or using Yap, you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully, especially the sections on conduct and Aura/purchases.
1. Eligibility
Yap is intended for users 13 years of age or older who are students at a participating school. By using Yap, you represent that you meet this age requirement and are providing accurate school/grade information. Accounts that fail age or eligibility verification will be removed.
2. Anonymous Accounts & Conduct
Yap is anonymous by design — do not attempt to reveal your own or another user's real name, photo, or other identifying information anywhere in the app. You agree not to:
- Harass, bully, threaten, or defame another user
- Post hate speech, sexual content, or content promoting self-harm or violence
- Impersonate another person or attempt to "dox" or de-anonymize another user
- Cheat, manipulate, or exploit Aura, The Toss-up, polls, or other app mechanics
- Use the app if you have been previously banned
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Content that is hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, threatening, or otherwise objectionable is prohibited. We remove violating content and suspend or permanently ban the accounts responsible, and we report unlawful content (including content involving the exploitation of minors) to the appropriate authorities.
How we enforce this. Yap filters objectionable language before posts, comments, and chat messages are published. You can report any post, comment, or chat message (tap ⋯ or long-press it, then tap Report), and it's removed from your feed immediately; content that draws multiple reports is removed for everyone. You can also block any user, which immediately hides all of their content from you. To reach us about abuse or safety concerns, email support@yap-social.app.
3. Child Safety
Yap and Loud Apps have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). The following are prohibited anywhere on Yap, including posts, comments, chat messages, polls, and usernames:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — any image, video, text, or link that depicts, describes, or promotes the sexual abuse or sexualization of a minor, including AI-generated or otherwise synthetic material
- Grooming — befriending or building trust with a minor in order to sexually abuse or exploit them
- Soliciting, requesting, or pressuring a minor to share sexual content or to engage in sexual activity
- Sextortion — threatening or blackmailing a minor using intimate images or information, real or fabricated
- Trafficking of a minor, or advertising, arranging, or facilitating the sexual exploitation of a minor
- Content that glorifies, normalizes, or encourages any of the above
Reporting. To report CSAE in the app, tap ⋯ or long-press the post, comment, or chat message, tap Report, and choose a reason. Reports are anonymous to the person you report. You can also email our child safety contact at support@yap-social.app. If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
Enforcement. When we become aware of CSAE on Yap, we remove the content and permanently ban the account responsible. We report CSAM and child exploitation to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (Cybertip.ca), the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), and law enforcement as applicable, and we comply with applicable child safety laws.
4. Your Content
You retain ownership of the content you post. By posting content on Yap, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute that content within the app as necessary to operate the service.
5. Aura, Virtual Currency & Purchases
- Aura and Lifetime Aura are virtual items with no cash value. They cannot be redeemed, exchanged, or transferred for real money or any other thing of value.
- Purchases (including Aura top-ups and subscriptions) are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play and are subject to their respective terms and refund policies. We do not process or store your payment card details.
- Subscriptions automatically renew until cancelled through your Apple or Google account subscription settings.
- Purchases are generally non-refundable except as required by applicable law or the policies of Apple/Google.
- If your account is suspended or terminated for violating these Terms, any remaining Aura is forfeited and any active subscription will be cancelled.
6. Blocking & Reporting
You can block other users and report content that violates these Terms. We review reports and may take action including content removal, warnings, or account termination.
7. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to Yap at any time for violation of these Terms, suspected fraud or abuse, or as required by law.
8. Disclaimers
Yap is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any outcome in The Toss-up, polls, or Aura will meet your expectations.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Loud Apps will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Yap.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of Yap after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
12. Apps Downloaded from the Apple App Store
If you downloaded Yap from the Apple App Store, your use of the app is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If that agreement and these Terms conflict regarding your license to use the app, Apple's agreement governs.
